Rebecca Heino
Dr. Rebecca Heino’s global career focuses on helping leaders excel by developing cross-cultural fluency, emotional intelligence, and authentic communication. Her career in higher education spans almost 20 years. She is currently a Professor of Clinical Management and Organization at the University of Southern California. Previously she was Academic Director and faculty of the Master of Science in Strategic Communication Program at Columbia University. She spent over a decade as a Teaching Faculty of Management at the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.
Dr. Heino teaches courses in cross-cultural intelligence and diversity, leadership and organizational behavior (i.e. mindfulness, resilience, and teaming), critical conversations, and presentation skills, for MBAs and various master’s programs in communication, finance, and leadership. Her expertise in adult learning effectively combines a rigorous academic grounding, with individual self-reflection and application, to enable growth.
In the corporate and non-profit realms, she teaches and coaches effective leadership, emotional intelligence, communication and critical conversations, mindfulness, and cross-cultural fluency. She works extensively in executive education, with Georgetown, Columbia, and Insead Universities. Her clients include Nextel International, International Finance Corporation, Rio Tinto, Nigerian Institute of Management, AARP, and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. She has also led leadership development sessions for organizations such as KPMG, Microsoft, FBI, Campbells, and GlaxoSmithKline.
Dr. Rebecca Heino’s global reach includes leading the South Africa Global Integrative for Georgetown MBA students, teaching executive courses in India, Singapore, Poland, and Australia, and running leadership summits in Costa Rica, Brazil, and Mexico. As a visiting professor in London for the University of Southern California, she focused on the study of global organizations and British media.
Dr. Heino’s current research focuses on cross-cultural effectiveness in communication. She also researches the use of communication technologies within organizations, as well as their personal application to foster relationship development. Her published articles have appeared in journals in management such as Organization Science, Communication Research, Journal of Computer-mediated Communication, and Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. Her research has won best paper awards from the International Communication Association and the European Academy of Management.
Dr. Heino is certified to administer Baron’s EQi, DISC, CQ (cultural intelligence), Leadership Styles, and ExperienceChange change simulation; she has a Certificate in Leadership Coaching from Georgetown University. She is an avid USC Trojans Football fan, scuba diver, meditator taco connoisseur, and global wanderer.
